That's My Name

When I named my first son, Jordan Alexander, I was thinking about the River Jordan. Strong, powerful, significant and biblical. When he was about 5 years old he asked me why didn't I name him "Andrew."

Names carry connotation or feelings. Some names carry images of pleasure for you such as your sweetheart or "pop idol." Other carry images of pain, such as the "school bully." If you don't like your name you have learned to associate negative images with it.

The first step in boosting your confidence is to appreciate your name.

How do you do that?

Seven tips to take pride in your name

  1. Write your name down at every opportunity.

  2. Buy a mug or coffee cup with your name on it. If you name is usual have one custom made.

  3. When you look at yourself in the mirror, smile. You would acknowledge an aquientance in the street.

  4. Look for other people who have the same name as you and notice the differences between you.

  5. Write down names that you like and make a note.

  6. Be aware of the names that you don't like and make a mental note.

  7. Remember in the end all you have is "your name."
